Knight Rider?

You got it Bill. Originally I put the answer in the puzzle description - kinda ruins the point of a "name that show" puzzle. I was just falling asleep last night when my eyes popped open and I realized what I did.

Back then, I didn't feel that KITT had as much personality as other "living" cars, like say, Schlepcar/Wonderbug (or heck, even Herbie) so I didn't watch Knight Rider that much.

Still more personality than android auto or apple car play! :)
... and still a better looking car than anything else on the road today (love those 3rd gen Firebirds!).

As soon as I saw the 5 1 1 red clues (and the fact that it was going to be an 80s tv show), I said to myself that this has to be KITT from Knight Rider! :)

singing the song to myself the whole time I solved once I got the reds in place - thanks for the earworm!

fancy firebird looking back at it now, but back then it was around the time they were still making Smoky and the Bandit movies... I'd take that gaudy gold bird on the hood covering a big block over the Cylon eye hiding a small block.
But that's just me.

Fun fact: my 2nd college roommate was David Hasselhoff's niece (his sister's daughter). Baywatch was on, at the time (mid 90s), and every time he came onscreen, she'd say, "It's Uncle DAYvid!"
