Puzzle Description:

A key element is missing from this scene...and please don't say "artistic ability" ;)

A man, holding a cane, swinging on a pole, singing, with a doorway in the background... Not getting the weather thing. OH! Unless he's Singing in the Rain and there's no rain in the puzzle! Which could be the "key element ... missing" and the weather that "refused to cooperate". yup.

All that thinking thru in real time, by the way. Definitely a "spoiler". And for more fun -- oh yeah, this was fun! -- see this:

Got it immediately. Well done. We were certainly not missing the key element a couple of nights ago when Tropical Storm Ida stormed through. We got 7 inches of rain in just a few hours!

Yep, you got it right away, CB Paul. Very fun link...dancers have some great moves no matter when they were born. Wow, that's a lot of rain, Carol.

Singing. Wonderful illustration. No guessing.
#5: Bill Eisenmann (Bullet) on Sep 5, 2021 [SPOILER]
Could also be Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda) as the Lamplighter from Mary Poppins Returns
#6: Bill Eisenmann (Bullet) on Sep 5, 2021 [SPOILER]
And the key element that is missing from this scene is Jack's lighter, so he's still in the dark.

Thanks for your comments, BlackCat and Bill. I looked up some stills from that movie, and I can see the connection if you trade the umbrella for a lamp-lighter.

Oh this puzzle is cool!

Here's a related local mural from here in Ann Arbor:

Thanks for the link, Valerie. I really like murals and that's a great one.

I just did this puzzle 10 minutes after watching Singing in the Rain (for the umpteenth time). For some reason, I had no trouble solving the mystery.
#11: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Sep 5, 2021 [SPOILER]
@ perlwolf: I have never seen Singing in the Rain, and I figured it out immediately. It must be pretty iconic. I do recall having seen this scene in a commercial or something somewhere...
#12: Kathy Roth (clyde) on Sep 6, 2021 [SPOILER]
I thought he was a utility worker on a pole restoring power.
#13: besmirched tea (Besmirched Tea) on Sep 6, 2021 [SPOILER]
for such a simple image, you really captured the essence of this iconic shot
#14: Car Geis (cgeisler) on Sep 6, 2021
Well said, besmirched
#15: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Sep 6, 2021
I agree. This is an excellent image.

Love this movie!

We got smacked by Ida. Lost shingles and had water damage down through the walls and seeping up through the flooring. We got power back after 3 days, but the entire area is in limbo right now. Work and school will likely resume on Monday.

Sorry to hear that, Kristen...what a nightmare.
#19: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Sep 8, 2021
Much sympathy Kristen!!
#20: CB Paul (cbpaul) on Sep 10, 2021
Kristen, I'm glad you're well. I'm hoping all the recovery work ahead goes as well as possible.
