Puzzle Description:

A very (stereotypical) French acorn with curled moustache, pointy beard, and beret.

I didn't need to guess. I used symmetry on the bottom few rows, and the rest took care of itself.
#2: Belita (belita) on Aug 6, 2020 [HINT]
Edge logic worked for me. I didn't have to rely on symmetry.
#3: CB Paul (cbpaul) on Aug 6, 2020 [SPOILER]
So... that would be a beretcorn?
#4: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Aug 6, 2020 [SPOILER]
It's totally moderate lookahead; no symmetry needed. Thanks for solving and sharing, BT and Belita.

And yes, CB, it can definitely be a beretcorn. (I see what you did there; it sounds like ber-acorn, doesn't it?")

All acorns are already wearing berets. They just need to tilt them to wear it right. ^-^ I was going to put this in the fantasy pairing series, but it didn't quite fit. That, and I loved the rhyming title, which means "a seed of oak."

Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by valerie.
#6: Michael Eddy (meddy) on Aug 7, 2020 [HINT]
EL worked for me.

Awesome!

Thank you, meddy and jota, for solving and commenting. ^-^

C'est très chic. Merci.

Merci à toi, aussi, Jane.
#11: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Aug 9, 2020 [HINT]
I had to guess about 3 times, but the image was worth it. Never thought of looking at an acorn that way. Fun!
#12: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Aug 9, 2020 [HINT]
All this needs is some edge logic on the 3 in column 1.

EL 3 c1 = r5-8 white
LL to finish

Any symmetry to be found in this puzzle is guessing. You can only apply symmetry if ALL the clues are symmetrical (and there is only one solution).

I like this puzzle!

Thank you, BlackCat. Isn't it fun to see how different minds see things?

Glad you like it, Joe. Also, thanks for mapping out the minimal EL. I agree with you on symmetry. I put in asymmetrical elements just to take away the lateral symmetry (and because berets look best tilted with some floppy flat fabric). Personally, I will likely never create one that is symmetrical on all sides. It looks great visually, but it's not a very interesting solve.

Absolutely delightful in every eay, Aurelian! (✬‿✬)
