Very nice rendition. Tough puzzle for me, but no guessing.

Little translation is needed, as proper names and numbers (and common knowledge) are enough to give a reader the gist of the description, but I couldn't pass up an easy passage.

"Abraham Lincoln, born December 12, 1809 in Kentucky and assassinated April 15, 1865 in Washington, D.C., is a man of American State*. 16th president of the United States (1861-1865), he lead the Union to victory at the time of the war of Secession [or, the Civil War, so called in the States] and abolished slavery."

*Michel might have meant to say "par un homme d'État américain," which would mean "by an American man." I thought it necessary to translate the original text, but I took translating liberties to offer what seems to me a more likely statement.

"est un homme d'état américain" means "is an American statesman." If anything, it could be in past tense. "était un homme d'état américain."

Ah. Thank you. My paper dictionary didn't offer that translation. You used Google translate, didn't you? I suppose I should have checked multiple sources.

yep. I use the translate feature all the time. :)

You know, I just looked up the reverse, that is, I looked up statesman in English. It gives the phrase "un homme d'État." It sure is easier when you already know what it means, isn't it? lol.
