Tux, the Linux mascot. He's rotated himself a bit, raised his wing and lost some weight just too make it possible for you to solve him. He's looked better.

I don;t see him as sad. I mean, all penguins look kind of melancholy, but hey, it's cold!

Linux is what runs your computer if you don't want to give money to Microsoft or Apple. And every product, even free products, needs a mascot. So that's Tux.

Based upon a recent wave of comments I've read, maybe the mascot should be a monkey. Don't know what that has to do with PBN, but it would make several people happy - lol.

that red cat that keeps popping up would work well too...or maybe the man on the intro page.

jan, a webpbn mascot sounds like a good idea. Maybe you could ask your puzzlers for ideas.
