As reported by Good Housekeeping:

In 1953, a Swanson employee accidentally ordered a colossal shipment of Thanksgiving turkeys (260 tons, to be exact). To get rid of them all, salesman Gerry Thomas took inspiration from the prepared foods served on airplanes. He came up with the idea of filling 5,000 aluminum trays with the turkey – along with cornbread dressing, gravy, peas, and sweet potatoes to round out the meal. The 98-cents meals were a hit, especially with kids and increasingly busy households.

And then came the tv tray tables.

I noticed that, Lollipop. Well, they didn't say they used ALL the turkey. I don't know what they did with the rest of it. Hmmmm.

They make a lot of chicken broth, but that still leaves a lot of meat. Cat and dog food?

My favorite TV dinners are the ones made by Stouffers.
#9: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 26, 2019
Stouffers is dependable. Marie Callenders is not. Sometimes good. Sometimes not.

I know I've said it before, but I derive much joy...much contentment...and more than a little comfort from coming here to be among you. You are every bit family to me...lol...maybe we are even more than that...maybe together we all comprise a very special tribe of sorts. Happy thanksgiving to my WebPBN tribe of amazing, gifted, quirky, sometimes aggravating lol and so loved friends.

A Marie Callender store? Or a factory/warehouse? I've only bought "her" pies from the freezer case of the grocery store.

There are Marie Callender restaurants that have a counter where you can by freshly baked pies. Although I hear that a lot of them closed including the ones in Arizona. The pies were excellent. There are now only 21 restaurants left in the US. AZ used to have 28,

sounds lovely! Fresh has to be better than frozen.

Very interesting.

I'm with Kristen...being from the southeast MC is a grocery store freezer aisle staple brand and it wasn't until recently that I found out that they were/are restaurants. Weird, subtle twist in perception.
