An old man was wondering if his wife had a hearing problem. So one night, he stood behind her while she was sitting in her lounge chair.

He spoke softly to her, "Honey, can you hear me?" There was no response.

He moved a little closer and said again, "Honey, can you hear me?" Still, there was no response.

Finally he moved right behind her and said, "Honey, can you hear me?"

She replied, "For the third time, Yes!"

Thanks, Teresa, the laugh came just at the right moment. Absolutely hilarious.

And, I regret to say, that image is like looking in the mirror. Sometimes I look in that mirror and say to myself "Not bad for an old broad" while other times I say "When did *that* happen?"

About a dozen years ago I was at an outdoor Ian Tyson concert (of Ian and Sylvia and "Four Strong Winds" fame, if anyone is old enough to remember). He would have been in his early seventies then. Now that I myself am mumblety years old, every day I have a personal reason to remember what he said when he kept forgetting the words of some of the iconic songs he had written: Getting old isn't for sissies. I thought he originated it, but I looked it up and found that it is attributed to Bette Davis.

I have the same mirror experiences, Lollipop.

I used to wonder why old people were so grumpy, and why they didn't smile back. Now I know, they might not see your smile if they have AMD, and they might be feeling lots of aches and pains. My face looks so much older now (what happened???), and I sometimes look frowny even when I'm happy, and people will tell me, "Smile, it's not that bad." I end up feeling worse then, when I realize I'm one of those grumpy looking old people. But only on the outside. :-)

Two older couples are playing bridge and while on a break, Abe says "I've been taking a class to help my memory"
Saul says "I could use something like that. What's the name of the course?"
Abe asks him "What do you call the name of that nice smelling flower with the thorns?"
"you mean a rose?" Saul replies.
"Oh yeah" then Abe shouts into the kitchen "Hey Rose, what is the name of that memory course I'm taking?"

It's easy to get old. You just have to keep being there. I should know. What you DO with old is what matters. It's sad that so many don't seem to care. I'm glad you all do.

Absolutely, Gary!

I was just thinking, it might not be easy being old, but it's not easy to be a teenager either, or a college student, or a new parent, or in a bad marriage. I'm old by most standards, but I'm happier than I've ever been. My Mom is 100, and she's pretty happy too. Life is good.

I love all the comments. Yep, I'm getting older very day and I'm experiencing lots of things that go along with old age. And then, I think to myself: how lucky I am to get to live to this age when lots of people don't.
You are so right Teresa when you say Life is good.
