The description is a clue to the subject using cryptic crossword clue rules.

Every cryptic clue is made up of two parts; a definition, and a literal description of the answer using wordplay. They can be in either order (though not intertwined) and there is no separation between them.

Here is a page describing some of the techniques:

Hey, Joe, don't forget that cryptic crosswords give the number of letters in the answer with the clue. My answer is "guff", although I haven't figured out what the picture is.

Perhaps "tweet" or "twitter"

Ditto twitter

Cryptic clues do give the number of letters, but they don't give a picture as an extra clue. So-even Steven.

Besides, you got it without the number. Guff is the answer!

For the beginning solvers:
This is a container type clue.

McGuffin centers on (=the center of 'McGuffin' is)
foolish talk (definition)
The picture is a low-res icon for Twitter and a definition of twitter is also 'foolish talk'.

Thank you so much for breaking these cryptic puzzles down for us beginners. Maybe some day I will be able to figure these out.

That was a fun one. I think I'm finally getting the hang of these. :-)

Fun image and solve but don't understand the cryptic portion.

Never heard the word Guff before so I asked my British husband and to him the word means "fart". He says if somebody is talking a lot of guff it can mean somebody is talking foolishly as it were, because what's coming out of their mouth is a lot of, well, hot air.... farts. Oh my!
I agree foolish talk is also a good description of Twitter : )

No idea about the cryptic part, but love the image.
