I'm missing the *key* to understanding this. Please explain.

According to Google AFK is Away From Keyboard. So if you don't play, you would be away from the keyboard.

But I suppose if it were music related, it means you're going to *rest* for a *measure* of time. Are you that *beat*?

It's used frequently in MMORPGs. If you're logged in, but you need to go get some food or take a phone call, you can set your status to "away from keyboard," so if anyone tries to ask you a question or invite you to join their party, they'll get a reply that "MisterAwesome65000 is AFK."

That's a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, such as World of Warcraft.

What are the two cable things at the top? I'm probably just being really dumb, but I can't tell what they are.

They are indeed cables - to connect to a mixing board or a computer.

Keyboards are so much fun. I have a really nice one that I bought from my composer son Chris when he got his super dooper new one, and my son John (FAS) has one of the cool kids keyboards that plays rhythms and records. I'm old enough to remember when keyboards were new on the market.
