The description is a clue to the subject using cryptic crossword clue rules.*

Every cryptic clue is made up of two parts; a definition, and a literal description of the answer using wordplay. They can be in either order (though not intertwined) and there is no separation between them.

Here is a page describing some of the techniques:

*The length is not given because the picture gives another clue.

You both got it.

For beginning cryptic puzzlers, here's the breakdown:

This is a "container" type of clue, with an anagram.

Paul the guitarist ("Les")
is invested in (gets stuck into)
wiser playing ("wiser" anagrammed - to wire---s)
without cords (definition)

The picture is an old radio, or wireless set.

How does Paul the guitarist get you Les?
#9: Norma Dee (norm0908) on May 17, 2018 [SPOILER]
Aurelian, before your time, maybe:

I had forgotten about him and all I could think of was Paul McCartney which of course didn't work.

Thanks for the link, Norma. It looks like his hit singles ranged from the 40s to the early 60s. None in the list sounded familiar. But now I get the puzzle.

He is also an extremely famous guitar maker. He basically invented what we think of electric guitars now. (Before him an "electric guitar" was an acoustic one with a regular microphone on it.)

Gee, this album was recorded earlier than I thought. He did a duet album with Chet Atkins (another renowned guitarist of yesteryear), called Chester and Lester.

I went with McCartney too.

Looks like an old time radio. Don't understand the underlying meaning.
