If I do say so myself, I thought this one played pretty well - not too easy, not too hard, decent image. Makes me wish I had support for color puzzles though.

Harder than I remember to get the fiddly bits in the middle.
#3: Mark Conger (aruba) on Jan 27, 2006
This one is quite hard!

Nice picture. Very colorful (LOL).
#8: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Sep 18, 2008
I got stuck on the middle part. Then I realized I hadn't put in a whole column of dots, and then it solved easily. Another excellent "solving-quality" puzzle.

waste of time
#10: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Sep 19, 2008
Wow. I would normally agree on a BAD puzzle, but this was DEFINITELY not one. Thank you for your opinion, though.

I guess we all see puzzles differently..I also thought it was a good one

So did I Scott LOL!

I finished the outline quickly and recognized this iconic image immediately. The middle, however, was a bugger to solve. Sure liked the outcome.

I had the same experience as Martin. However, when I just totally started over it seemed to go very well.

This one was good - it started off so easy I was about to try a more challenging one instead, but in the end it got a bit tricky so glad I stuck to it!

Nice solve. Not too hard. Another satisfying "Jan" image.
#23: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Dec 29, 2017
I would give this a solid "2" in difficulty, and a "4.5" in quality. I liked it, but I think it was harder to solve with the software that was available when it was first made. I found this quite easy, but not so easy as to insult it with a level 1 difficulty rating.
#24: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Dec 29, 2017
Aurelian, I am not understanding why the software available now would change the difficulty of the solve. To change the difficulty of a puzzle you would have to change the puzzle itself.
#25: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Dec 29, 2017
Aren't there things available now that weren't available then? Like the hint button. I don't really know; I wasn't here in 2004. All I know is that Jan made a lot of updates to the website over the years that improved puzzle making and puzzle-solving. Maybe I was just overthinking it.
#26: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Dec 29, 2017
The hint button only shows you lines or columns where you can fill in a pixel or two. It doesn't solve anything for you or fill in any pixels for you. It's just a time saver as you can find the lines or columns yourself with time and perseverance. It can come in handy if you are stuck and don't want reexamine the whole puzzle again. I will use it on larger puzzles that have small numbers and lots of open spaces. Saves a lot of counting and recounting at times.
#27: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Dec 29, 2017
Yeah, it makes it easier.
#28: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Dec 30, 2017
Also realize that this is an old puzzle. Most of the comments are from people early in their solving career. There are actually quite a few puzzles on here where the early comments are all about how impossible it is, when all it needs is a little edge logic or such. Our collective level of ability is much higher than it used to be.
#29: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Dec 30, 2017
So true, Joe. Their skills at rating puzzles, particularly small puzzles, was also somewhat lacking.
