Puzzle Description:

Walking on a beach circa 1965 you might come across a common (but now extinct), dangerous bit of litter that could potentially blow out your flip-flop.

Those things were dangerous and discarded willy-nilly. They are probably still lurking just under the surface in places. Nice solve. Had no idea until the end, then still wasn't quite sure until I read your description.

Wow, that was a very fiddly solve. I'm so glad there was a good picture at the end! (And a song stuck in my head)

Norma Dee, I'll bet everyone over a certain age has been cut by one, and everyone under a certain ages has never seen one. Kristen, I agree it ended up being a somewhat tedious solve...but I know...it's nobody's fault.

It's a good kind of tedious. It kind of inches along in a nice way because there is always some place in the puzzle where you can continue.

"... it's nobody's fault." hehehe

I totally enjoyed this solve, Gregg, and love the title too.

I remember way back when... getting wasted on margaritas, and, yes, there was a woman to blame... the other woman. The good ole days. Hah! So glad they're gone. But it is fun to reminisce.

Yes, nice solve. But what is it??

Oh Diane, you are so young. :) Wait, can I claim I don't know what it is? Yeah, I am so young I don't know what it is! No, that doesn't work, everyone will know I have Alzheimers! ;)

Thanks, Teresa...sometimes nostalgia is best in small doses.
Thanks, diane...check out this link and video on the aluminum ring tab that used to be part of the litter landscape:

I didn't find this tedious at all, just needed to happily add one or two squares at a time and keep up with the blank ones. I'm old enough to remember those vicious little things, glad I lasted this long. Nice to be reminded that we have done a few little things to improve the environment over the years. Maybe there's hope for the planet yet! Thanks for a clever puzzle. 😊

Thanks, Susan. I appreciate your planetary optimism.
