Puzzle Description:

I wanted to try something with ambiguous solutions. Can they provide a new dimension to the game? The numbers in the middle eight columns can make either a line pointing to the happy face or a line pointing to the angry face. Which way did your line point at first? If you "draw" your line towards the angry face, you are mathematically correct, but the program will tell you it's not the intended solution. To get this description you are forced to "correct" your solution to mine. But what if a puzzle maker wants the solution to be ambiguous? Or a choice for the solver?

Then you''l have to have multiple solutions!

Actually, I figured out the diagonal line before I figured out what turned out to be the two faces. I drew it up-left instead of up-right; as you say, it would have been logically correct either way.

Interesting. I could tell what the two solutions would be, and first chose the "right" path to happy. :-)

OK

This defeats the point of creating a picture with a unique, logical solution. It's no fun to guess, and hope the solution you choose is the one the author intended.

Kristen, I also love puzzles with unique logical solutions. Maybe mine would work a little better if I titled it "Choose your mood?" If there was a way for me to give people the "victory message" for both solutions, I would.

Found to require some guessing by infrapinklizzard.

I made one puzzle with multiple solutions to make a point: 10396

Even if you make the picture unambiguous about which to choose, the player will still have to guess whether to trust you or not.
