I did a web search for "The thinker's thinker" and Google suggested "Ron Coffey." Then I looked up images of Ron Coffey, but I couldn't tell if this is him, but my guess is that it's not.
Hm.
Then I remembered the part about "100 years ago." This puzzle was made in 2015, so 100 years earlier would be 1915. So I searched for "Ron Coffee 1915" and "thinker's thinker 1915" but didn't come up with any obvious answer. So I am still puzzled.
Anyway, it was satisfying to solve!
