So recognizable! I love the negative space. In fact, I love everything about it. Re-solving these forgotten treasures is the unexpected bonus of the crash. Thanks, Belita.

Ok. Who started singing after solving this?
#8: Belita (belita) on Apr 19, 2021
I don't actually remember, but it's a pretty good bet I was singing the whole time I was making it.

This song was turned on its head by Stanly Kubrick in "A Clockwork Orange", when Alex sang it while he and his "droogs" casually committed horrific acts of "ultraviolence" on innocent citizens.

The book, by British author Anthony Burgess, was incredible, although quite difficult to read, due to the massive amount of slang, as well as the horrors of the subject itself.

A "clockwork orange" is something mechanical which appears organic. The book is a dystopian depiction of a future where violent criminals are subjected to reprogramming, which consists of injecting them with a drug that makes them incredibly nauseous, while being forced to watch movies of horrific violence, the idea being that it would render them incapable of ever committing it again (thus creating a robot that looks like a human).

The slang in the book was based on hacked-up Russian, e.g. the Russian word for very good is "horosho", so they said "horrorshow". A "droog" was a friend, and they patronized "korovas", (milk bars), the milk being spiked with LSD.

As I plowed my way through the book, I was able to understand much if not most of the slang through context. Only after I finished it did I find a glossary!

If you didn't read the book, the movie was tough to follow. If you had read it, the movie was woefully deficient in terms of the scope of the horror and extent of the evil of both the criminals and the "reformers".

I highly recommend reading the book (with much consultation of the glossary!), and then watching the movie (featuring a very powerful performance by a young Malcolm MacDowell.)
