If there are multiple solutions, why are there not multiple intended solutions? Fortunately, I hit upon the "right" solution on my second try, and did not have to cycle through all 5! possible solutions.

Found to require lots of guessing by infrapinklizzard.

I got it on my first guess, but at less than 3/4 of one percent of randomly guessing it, I'd say this is lots of guessing.

first guess here too...but think there are 120 possible aren't there?
#5: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Feb 1, 2014
Yes, there are 5! (five factorial) possible arrangements. And I made a misstatement. It is actually slightly MORE than 3/4 of one percent - 0.008333 - to get the right answer randomly.

ah...missed that exclamation mark the first time :)

How is this a lot of guessing? Especially with the title?
#8: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Feb 13, 2018 [SPOILER]
Even if you assume it is a diagonal line you have only a 50% chance. But is it a straight line? Is the author even telling the truth that it's a line? The title is not a proper part of the puzzle. One can only go by the clues to solve it logically.
