Great puzzle. The perspective is great. Some people just don't get it that trucks and buses can't stop on a dime.

Also, good point. Every driver should be semi-conscious.

For the past several years we've noticed a sharp increase in crashes when a car pulls directly into the path of a large truck where obstructed view is not an issue. Very often we have to try to figure out what caused a driver to be so distracted as to miss seeing a 65 foot, 80,000 pound truck, because the driver can't tell us. It's just not a fair fight.

Thanks Norma and Annaliva!

First of all very cool truck Dave, and I also love the perspective. I imagine a lot of it is due to falling asleep at the wheel or alcohol or drug related, and as bad of a reason as those are,it's worst when they're due to cell phone or texting use. That's just my opinion.:)

Thanks Kristen, Tom & Al.
Well this nasty trend does generally parallel the overall increase of texting and cellphone use. We don't get warrants for cell records unless we have a clear reason to believe cell phone / texting use may have directly contributed. (It's not like we're the nsa) Actually Al, drug and alcohol use appear to be decreasing, (in Kansas anyway), as a factor for these types of wrecks.

What IS obvious is that many more people are allowing themselves to be distracted to the point of missing even the most obvious of potential hazards.

When the weather is right it's a pleasant walk to the bus stop for me. I try to sit on the right side to have a clearer look ahead. I also have a clearer look at cars approaching from the right and have been extremely lucky on several occasions that the driver was able to avoid a collision with a careless driver popping out in front of him/her. I see the driver of the car look right at the bus, but still pull out. Go figure.

I walked away from such an accident, but my beloved 2-seater Suzuki Sidekick didn't.....
