What does it mean Dear John letter?

Dear John letter is a breakup letter, announcing that the other person is leaving. In the pre-internet days, this was considered the cowardly equivalent of today breaking up by text instead of in person.

Much better than the letter I thought you would make. Great details and emotion.

Thanks for your comments...a Dear Jane letter is the equivalent for a man breaking up with a woman.

Fun puzzle.

Yes, good image. But there are TWO images here!
[1] the half-face, with beard, glasses, one eye, looking down sadly.
But also [2] the suggestion of a stemmed glass of wine on the right - an understandable accompaniment.
hmmm?

Most impressive perspective. Well done.
Breaking up is always sad, but today's "instant messages" make it all the more difficult. Makes me wonder about the relationship in the first place.
