Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by gator.
#2: Gator (gator) on Jul 31, 2012 [HINT]
Edge logic completely places the 6 clue in column 1. Great solve!

Thanks Gator!

Is Rivet a typo? Or is that a cycling thing?

Terrific image :)
#5: Kurt Kowalczyk (bahabro) on Jul 31, 2012
yep, edge gets the 6....(most of the 7 on the other side too, though it doesn't help much.)

wow, David! Fantastic image and solve--a true work of art!
#6: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Jul 31, 2012 [SPOILER]
thanks kurt.

kristen, it's a cycling term that seemed appropriate for the Olympics. It's when someone is putting out maximum effort...going all out.

Minnie, I wish I had more time to make more puzzles...things have been hectic lately. Maybe they will calm back down to their normal crazy pace soon.

Fantastic puzzle, David. This is my favorite kind of puzzle. Edge logic that isn't TOO frustrating, presenting a nice challenge, and an awesome image at the finish. Great angle.

From Urban Dictionary: "On the rivet" - Extreme physical exertion to the point of almost giving up. Derived from bike racing in the olden days when bike seats had rivets, and in an effort not to get dropped one would slide forward on the saddle to exert maximum pressure on the pedals so as to hang on the the amphetamine-loaded Belgian in front of you.

Five stars, for sure. Found it today in my large stash of partly solved puzzles, cleared it, and started fresh. David, this puzzle is why I'm so happy you're still creating puzzles for us 10 years later. Thank you for all of it.
#26: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Apr 21, 2022
Thanks Lollipop! I've been doing more solving than creating lately because my available time has been so chopped up. I'll try to do a few soon :)
