thanks all!

since this one still has a "?" next to it i thought i would offer some help. there are a few ways to tackle this one, but all involve edge logic...in fact all four sides can use edge logic of some sort and without edge logic i think you can only get 10 red squares to start. However, the "dozen" in the title is more a reference to the "12 monkeys" than the need for extensive AMOUNTS of edge logic. here is one approach:

look at edge logic in C25 for how low that 11 can start. at first glance the answer might appear to be R21 to form the R24 "2" below the dot, but that leaves the 2 in C25 with nowhere to hide...meaning it will trigger a red below that 2 in C24 you just made. So really the 11 in C25 can't start lower than R19. You can now place three reds in C25 and, believe it or not, it's line logic from that point.

for the record, as far as i can tell you can only get so far (25%?) with edge logic on the left, top and bottom...at least some is required on the right. it's just a matter of how you approach the right and how much you have done before starting on the right. and you don't have to do that "non-hide-able 2" stuff/look-ahead if you jump back and forth with edge logic on the 11 in C25 and the 13 in C24 repeatedly and painfully.

Don't expect an explanation to get rid of the question mark. That's what Gator and Jan are for. ;)

Seriously, I've had far simpler puzzles go for months with a ? and a full tutorial.

thanks joe. i found that out a while back. i didn't provide the explanation in an attempt to get rid of the questions mark so much as use the question mark to signal me that an explanation might be helpful for some people.

this was still showing up in my saved puzzles, so i worked it again and realized that the edge logic on the right isn't quite as tricky as i thought. as you work your way up with the 11 in C25 you might realize that as soon as you get to R21 you start violating the 5 in C23 until R14. that alone places 8 of the 11.

That was so much fun! Thanks!

glad you enjoyed it princess :)

That was a fun solve. The face is a little weird and I did have to guess once. I like the single color being red for a change.

Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by infrapinklizzard.
