Hmmm. This reminds me that back in the old days when the graphics capabilities on most computers were rather more limited than they are these days, I did some Walt Kelly images. Digging around I find I've still got a couple:
                          ___
                         /) ))
                       _/< //)
                 _____/\\ '(/__
                / `o/ `-----' /))))
                \____\ | (\/ /
                   )/ ` | > /

Jan, did you sit at the keyboard and put these in bit by bit? That would have taken ages. The kids and myself are very impressed. WOW!!! :)

Yes, many hours of work went into those, but I was never more than an piker at the art form. Some people made really amazing images. Google "Rowan Crawford" to see a true master.

Thanks Jan, I checked out -Roe, I loved his koala collection, amazing stuff :)

Fun puzzle JC. Good job on Albert. I loved Pogo. Do you know if the strip re-runs in a daily paper somewhere? It would be a shame to lose that wisdom. Kelly was so ahead of his time. I used his famous quote "We have seen the enemy and he is us" in a political speech back in 1988 and was amazed at how many people knew it. I thought my father and I were the only Pogo fans! Thanks so much for the reminder. Great job. ^>^

Jan, I remember spending hours "entertaining" myself with those computer graphics. My end results were poor quality and too frustrating to continue trying. I'm in awe of your old school graphics! Thanks for the turn on to Rowan Crawford. His computer "doodlings" are pretty awesome! :)

Jan, you can't see it, but I am bowing prostrate to you right now. That's terrifie! My favorites were Churchy turtle's dire thirteenth of the month episodes. What ever day the 13th landed on became Friday the 13th. "I hates it when Friday the 13th lands on a Tuesday. That's double bad luck!" Pogo made a brief comeback (Sundays only) in the mid-late 80's, but it had so much going on each panel, that I really think most people didn't get it. They prefered the intellectual stimulation of marmaduke.
The graphics remind me of a college course project -- a computer course in Basic. The upper classmen took fortran and cobolt, with the little punch cards. We had to design a program to print our names in a sine wave. Some of the guys actually tried to impress women by printing her name in sine wave. Boy what cavemen we were, what a long way we've come! With the computers, that is.

At this moment, I'm 88% done, and I have a sneaking suspicion this is Albert the Alligator from Pogo. I mean, the green head is sort of alligatorish, at this point, and that's a cigar... If it is, that sure take me back. Now to see if I'm correct.
