a bit of work, but no guessing required. nice one.

Wow that was hard. Really great solve!

Edit: Looking at the difficulty rating, I'm wondering if I just missed something glaringly obvious and used all this complicated logic when I didn't need to. Or maybe everyone is just really smart tonight.

Pretty simple edge logic on the bottom row will solve it.
#4: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Sep 26, 2010 [HINT]
i can't agree,,,, maybe edge logic on the left side with 3 moves ahead

I always solve my own puzzles before publishing them and I found this one tough. The words took alot of work.
#6: Gator (Gator) on Sep 27, 2010 [HINT]
I used some edge and two-way logic to get some of the black done. I then focused on row 13. I looked where the 3 clue could go. It could either go in columns 8-10 or 14-16. If you try to place it in columns 8-10 and look at how this affects row 10, it will make row 10 invalid. So it must go in 14-16. It solved normally from there.

Found to be logically solvable by Gator.

Good image, a real challenge to solve. I was not able to look ahead that many moves and had to read the hints.

Fun puzzle and no guessing required

Very tough to solve, even with the hints. Difficulty rating is too low.
#11: Andrew Schultz (blurglecruncheon) on Sep 23, 2019 [HINT]
The colors weren't hard to match, but I had to take a few stabs at what to eliminate.

I eliminated the right part of the row with the 3 (#11), then I saw c10r14 needed to be a dot. The puzzle fell out pretty nicely after that.

How can we be sure you didn't white out an "r"?
