*** WEBPBN Weekly Contest Survey ***
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/R3KB6Z9

Everyone is invited to participate in this online survey about the Weekly Contest (WC). There are five questions and a place for comments. Perhaps it might be easier for some folks to share their opinions anonymously.

* You are allowed to take the survey only once.
* You can see the "real time" results immediately.
* You can return to the link to view updated results.

I don't think the comments show up in the results, so I will share them on the forum at the end of each day. Please be respectful.

Well, we have had 23 people take the survey in the first 3 days. (In case you were wondering, Tom, none of them were my personal friends or family members.)

There were 9 comments so far. Here they are:

* Bad image for the entire site.

* My recommendation for trustworthy judges would be the option to vote for the puzzles after they are all solved. I'm not sure how to pull it off but a voting system that works as follows: IF you solve all the puzzles in the time frame given for the contest voting to end, you then have the option of voting for the best one. That way only people who have solved the puzzles vote on the available options. Theme idea's could be given to a pool to choose from.

* On question 3, I want to mark both the 3rd and 4th choices. (Yes, I read about it, and I really don't care what he did.)

* Tom is also a liar, a bad mouth and has no judgement but everybody likes his little cute comments and puzzles.

* Thank you for making this survey anonymous. This was a good idea.

* Judging someone else's puzzles has nothing to do with his own ability to make puzzles. But nevertheless, sensei69 has betrayed my trust in him as a puzzle creator. It always struck me as odd how he made very childish puzzles together with very elaborate ones.

* Sensei69 betrayed and wants to be judged as a victim. Puuh!

* :-P T

The comment from Sylvain (qwerty) I will not copy here. He identified himself then blasted away with profanities that were offensive to me and would be to most of you. But I'm sure you get the idea from his comment on Topic #360 how he feels. I would like to reassure everyone that I am not campaigning to have the contest shut down. I only want to see what the general opinion is among webpbn players.

T sorry if my comment offense you if was not my intent. The thing is that I want to shocase how desapointed I ende up being with that whole thing and I let my natural "good guy" filter off.
You have to understand that english being my second language its some time harder for me to be but clear and cut and to pass my message with using profanity that are , for me the french guy, not that bad.
We can swear without the world stop turning around here in Quebec so all the f word mega attention don't reach me as much as if I was born elsewhere in Canada or down in the State.
Once again sorry if offensed its was not the purpose of it. I just let it go without filter...

I've been absent for a while for a while for a variety of reasons, mostly some *real life* projects have occupied my time. This site is/was mostly a distraction when I had a lot of free time. I also like the mental exercise.

I also stopped commenting for a couple of reasons. First of all, I realized that the site was loading slower and slower for me. The first thing I always do is go to the forum and catch up on the comments. I realized that the ridiculously large amount of short phrase, unnecessary comments were taking up a lot of space and time and decided I wasn't going to contribute to the problem.

The other reason I stopped commenting, and the reason I may stop reading the comments, is the kind of crap that's going on here. I understand being competitive when there's some greater social benefit to it but, really, this is a fun site, a time waster, and could be an incredible community. Instead, a few individuals feel it's necessary to assert their superiority, their greater mental prowess, their greater creative abilities, fill in your own competitive ilk.

Really, folks. They are just puzzles.

And if I remember correctly, one of Sylvan's intents with creating the WCP was to stimulate puzzle creation. With the number of puzzles now on the site, and the fact that some feel compelled to plagiarize others just to keep up, it's hardly necessary. Since participation has dropped of to a few repetitive individuals and it seems to be hard to get a friendly group together to do the judging, I think it'd be totally reasonable just to dump the whole thing.

I know I won't be participating. I stopped for a different reason but this shit is enough to convince me to stay quit.

Those of you who are only reading about this in the Forum might be interested in reading the comments to puzzle #20020.

"They are just puzzles." I just happened to address this point in my comment there. :-)

I've gone to 20020. A moderately interesting puzzle and a lot of time wasted reading bickering, he said/she said, and more proof that both the need and the time for the WCP has passed.

WOW - Teresa, I can't wait for the next episode of your childish & vindictive diatribe!

Wow Tom - I was going to write something but I'm sooooo tired of wasting my time.

This is several months late and off the main topic, but addresses Teresa's comment at #2 about Sylvain's profanity and his response at #3.

Sylvain is correct as to the type of words and phrases that do or don't elicit a negative gut response in Quebec. A long time ago I read an article about swearing being geographically specific. Being a bilingual anglophone and coming from Montreal as I do and having lived for many years in Ottawa, I related completely to the first two examples in that article: In the US and most of Canada many words and expressions considered to be objectionable are connected to sex, in France (and Quebec) to religion, and in the UK to bodily bathroom functions.

I once worked in an office next to a francophone man for whom the f-bomb was just another adjective or interjection, including in telephone conversations with contacts he didn't even know personally. But once when I used the J-deity word as an exclamation I got the steely-eyed glare from him.
