It doesn't happen too often, but sometimes while solving a puzzle, my cursor drips "wet paint." That is, while attempting to position the cursor over a particular grid cell without dragging, inexplicably all the grid cells that the cursor passes over are filled (usually white). This ruins everything I had done up tp that point, and I just give up on the puzzle. Does this happen to anybody else, and is there a fix for the problem.#2: Byrdie (byrdie) on May 22, 2020

If you have saved recently, you can use the Revert button to go back to your last save.#4: Norma Dee (norm0908) on May 22, 2020
If you have not saved, then you can either use the Undo button or just press Z to undo until you get to a point before the mishap. (Just be sure to click the mouse first or you will just continue to drag mess behind you.)
The reason this happens is that the browser lost focus while the mouse button was pressed and did not "get the message" that the button had been released. This can happen for too many odd reasons to count.
Someone here mentioned a long time ago that it happened when he clicked back to the browser window using the middle mouse button.
If you're not using Chrome, try that. Firefox has been working fine for me as well.
When you report a problem, you should tell what browser and operating system you are using. For example, I am using Firefox 76.0 on Windows 10. (The browser version can be found on the browser's Help menu by choosing About)
