Alathair was an ancestor's sister. Her adult life was sad. Her full name was Alathaire Greenwell Pritchett Gibson. Misters Pritchett and Gibson died young. Sara Pritchett Wheatley died young. Maybe that carried over into the puzzle.
Why is the name always spelled differently? Because that's what the records show, everyone spelled it differently.

I'm in MS but Alathair and daughter Sarah lived in KY. I don't have many pictures either but I did find some online in genealogy websites.#8: BlackCat (BlackCat) on May 6, 2018
Don't know the characters, but the image is awesome. Very doable puzzle with a rewarding solve.
