Alas, JK Rowling is extremely vocally anti-transgender.

I hate when this happens. Someone whose work I enjoy turns out to be a bigot or predator. I've been watching "We need to talk about Cosby" and it is bringing back the revulsion I felt when I first learned that America's dad was a serial rapist.

As for anti-transgender, I cannot understand prejudice toward any group that can cause you zero harm. It costs you nothing to act in a kind, accepting, inclusive manner.

Why do we constantly categorize as us or them? The reality is that we are all us. There is no them.

Yes! Exactly!

Thanks David - I had not read that before. I clicked through from the article and also read what JK Rowling had written about the topic, in her own words, here:
https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k-rowling-writes-about-her-reasons-for-speaking-out-on-sex-and-gender-issues/

The two articles added a lot of perspective and made me feel a lot better about JK Rowling overall. I don't 100% agree with her, but what she said seemed very thoughtful and nuanced, and not at all like she'd been on an endless spree of hating trans people, which is how I had previously heard people describe what she's been saying. Thanks for posting that!

Agreed. I can't say I agree with her on everything, but I think she was portrayed a bit inaccurately. I think, as a professional communicator, the fault is mostly hers for leaving too much to (mis)interpretation in the first place. Still listen to the HP audiobooks though :)

A fun blot puzzle. Deep subject matter.

There is the idea of "the death of the author" where the output of the author is divorced from the awfulness of the author. This is all well and good, but sometimes you must also decide whether your consumption of their output is supporting them and thus their message. It is a balancing act that people decide in different ways.
