East and west are mixed up, silly. Maybe you were laying on the ground and looking up at your compass?

you got it, Cynthia :)

or your w and e could be on their sides; or as they say in the Wizard of Oz:
Dorothy: Now which way do we go?
Scarecrow: Pardon me. That way is a very nice way...[pointing]
Dorothy: Who said that?
[Toto barks at the Scarecrow]
Dorothy: Don't be silly, Toto. Scarecrows don't talk!
Scarecrow: It's pleasant down that way too!...[pointing in another direction]
Dorothy: That's funny. Wasn't he pointing the other way?
Scarecrow: Of course, people do go both ways [pointing in both directions]

scarecrow was my fav character

Of course for some of us ... one direction (west for me) leads directly into the ocean, or at least the Sound.
Thanks for another enjoyable puzzle.

And I very much delighted in reading once again scarecrow's words.

very nice Tom

It is not a mirror reflection, the letters are not reversed. (The w would look the same, but the E, N, and S would look different - the slash in the middle of the N would go from top right to bottom left, the S would instead look like a 5, and the E would have its vertical stroke on the right.)

(That's weird - I am not logged in, so it looks like I get a random user name assigned to my message. This was not sent by Jodi.)

hmmmm maybe the mirror of Jodi inside out?

Click on Forum, select All Topics from the dropbox, click on More Topics at the bottom, 227 will be on that page.

This compass must be made by the Tate Company as per this old joke:

Q: Why should you never use a compass made by Tate?

A: Because he who has a Tate's is lost.

This compass would be OK if it was on a ceiling.
#19: Meg Smith (mamadragonfreak) on Aug 21, 2018
this compass is ok if the bottom of each letter is at the edge of the compass. So...if i turn what currently looks like a W to the bottom it now looks like an E with S and N sideways but in the correct orientation. the same happens with the E/W. You'll get the idea if you tilt your head...
