Puzzle Description:
Trilobites, marine fossils thought to be from the Cambrian period when there was an explosion of marine life. On the left is a Bristolia. On the right is a Lichida. Trilobites multiplied profusely and crawled on the bottom of the shallow ocean floor. The Cambrian explosion was the relatively rapid appearance, over a period of many million years, of most major groups of complex animals around 530 million years ago, accompanied by a major diversification of organisms.

Trilobites were an Arthropod that lived 505 to 455 million years ago, during the Paleozic. They get their name from their exoskeleton, divided into three lobes.#3: Susan Duncan (medic25733) on May 30, 2010

They lasted for 250 million years before extinction. Check out this timeline that compares their lineage to other life forms:

Trilobites died out during the Cambrian mass extinction, when a majority of life forms became extinct.
Very interesting puzzle Teresa and more than a bit tricky!#4: Liz P (Lizteach) on May 31, 2010 [SPOILER]
I love the combination biology lessons/puzzles. That tricky Lichida on the right nearly did me in, though, with all of those alternating reds and blacks!#5: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Jun 13, 2010
This was very unusual and quite, quite fun to solve.#6: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jun 14, 2010
Thanks, BlackCat.#7: Kathy Roth (clyde) on Oct 3, 2016
