boy, don't i?! nice rendering, tom. these were often the kids who dusted the erasers, passed out the mimeographed tests and continued reading the story when the teacher had to leave the class. :-)

yep.... and got all the A's

Nope. We didn't even have hall monitors. Of course, I'm part of gen-x, the "slacker generation". Our year had so little class spirit, the slogan that won was " '85 is still alive."

The administration ignored our wishes (as usual) and imposed another, more "spirited" one. I don't even remember what it was.

Yes. I was a bus patrol in grade school. This was one of only two ways to get a seat at the back of the bus. (The other was to carry a knife!)

I was too busy watching the birds out the window to notice when the teacher left the room. It was quite a blow when I got to junior high and there were no windows (a 70's attempt at energy efficiency). Hence the era of extensive doodling.

We still have bus patrols here and crossing guards as well with their little stop signs. This is a great representation.

Francie, you're a trip.
Joe, you have to have a hall pass to enter here.
Thanks, Susan

@Joe --
We didn't have much school spirit in my high school either. I remember going to a pep rally as a freshman. A group of students made posters that said "I'd rather be learning right now"

We never had a pep rally during the school day after that.

Ahaha!! If only we'd thought of that!

The school near my house still has patrol girls and boys. They still wear the sash/belt and carry the red sign.

No, there were no patrol boys or girls when I was going to school. In first, and second grade -- I think -- we had ball monitors and line leaders, etc. I think they changed every week.
