My mother's father worked for Bausch & Lomb and worked on early television, so they were one of the first to get it in Rochester. There was one station and it broadcast only a few hours per day.

Nice puzzle, Tom.

We had a set like this. I remember, the screen was so small, about 12 inches diagonal, and only in black and white. The whole family gathered around to watch What's My Line and the Ed Sullivan Show. I remember Howdy Doody too! :-)

cool puzzle, tom! i remember my mom & dad putting little balls of tinfoil on the antennae to enhance the reception, and i also remember us having to fiddle around with the horizontal and vertical dials. our favorite shows were tarzan and batman. we still have a color tv with uhf & vhf and it still works! but then we also have a beige rotary phone with a real bell inside and IT still works, too!

I've already seen advertisements for a 3D tv. Though why someone will want to wear 3D glasses to watch tv I'll never understand.

Don't forget to turn the set on ten minutes before the show, it has to warm up, you know. And why does the UHF fine tuner seem to get out of whack by the time you walk back to the couch?

you gotta use the heavy duty (reynolds) tin foil :D

Memories! I remember "Lassie", "Father Knows Best", etc. And, the old "test pattern" when no show was airing. Has anyone made that puzzle?

How about going to the closest convenience market with a shoe box full of tubes to test only to find out they don't have the one(s) you need!

how about what happens when you didn't map out where to put them back?
