Here's the answer:

Barcode.

The description asked if there is a message here, and there is: The morse code spells out "BARCODE" - hahaha.

The barcode was an idea way back in 1948, when two graduate students (Bernard Silver and Norman Joseph Woodland) began to develop the technology. The first bar code was tested in a supermarket in Ohio in 1974 on a package of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum. By 1980 the technology was being adopted by 8000 stores per year.

My first summer job was as a grocery store checker, way back when we had to memorize the prices of produce and the cash registers did not figure the correct change. :-)
