cute! colorado had an infestation of these last year that was unbelievable. it was so bad that the pine trees looked red from a distance. we had quite a few in our yard, as well.

When I was younger, I used to eat them because I didn't know better. Now that I am older, I figure they haven't hurt me yet, so why not continue? They tickle as they go down, though. I tried chewing one once, but it made me gag. It is best to swallow them whole.

Nice image. I've been told that ladybugs have no natural predators, but I guess Syd is one! There was a huge infestation of ladybugs in Shenandoah National Park a few years ago - they had released ladybugs to reduce the number of aphids, but then the ladybugs went totally out of control. Driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway, if we stopped and opened the car door to take some photos, 20 ladybugs would immediately fly in...
