Limelight. Originally this was a type of stage lighting created by a flame burning oxygen and hydrogen which is aimed at a cylinder of quicklime (calcium oxide) that is heated to more than 2400 degrees C, at which point it emits an intense glow. The limelight effect was discovered by Goldsworthy Gurney around 1820. Limelight was an important utility for theatrical production back then, as it would be 50 years until the introduction of electric lighting.

And now after your science lesson, you get a little reward:

Loved this one! Thought it was a key, so I spent about 5 minutes trying to figure it out with the wrong word!

I solve the right side first and jumped to spotlight. Which I can still see by the way.

Ditto the first part of #4, and I thought you made it green just to be interesting until I finished solving the left side and then it was most definitely a lime! I especially love the border on this one, too.

I too loved the border on this one. I was able to guess what it was because you made it green. Great puzzle.

Thanks, everyone. I will definitely make you guess from now on. :-)

Lime key pie ?
#9: Amanda French (Amandarose_20) on Apr 9, 2010 [SPOILER]
Ha ha ha, I was thinking key lime pie...but I just enjoy eating it...not being in it, so I figured that didn't work

I was thinking maybe parakeet (pear + key) but you haven't been that obscure. :) (not a fan of your borders but at least this one was decently quick enough to get down to the puzzle)

I got it! Yippee.
fun series!

Thanks, Telly.

I first thought it was a leaf on the left, but since leaflight is neither a word nor an established concept, I knew that wasn't it. I stuck it out and looked a little closer until the leaf looked like a lime. Limelight worked so I checked the comments, and sure enough!
