The design on the left is called Nsaa, and is the symbol used as the mark of authenticity in woven fabric from Ghana. According to "The Adinkra Dictionary", the Nsaa symbol reflects a saying: "Nea onnim nsaa oto n'ago", which translates as "He who does not know authentic Nsaa will buy the fakes." Good to know if you ever go shopping in Ghana. :-)

On the right is the DUAFE ("wooden comb"), a symbol of beauty and cleanliness. One source emphasizes the meaning of more abstract qualities of feminine goodness, love and care, while another sources gives a more literal interpretation, looking one's best and good hygiene. In any case, the duafe was a prized possession of the Akan woman, used to comb and plait her hair.

Way cool. The thing on the right reminded me of a jellyfish (or an octopus) with one large cycloptic eye. :-)

I like the border, and it looked like a comb to me, especially just after doing a Gifts of the Magi puzzle. :)

I liked the border, and I enjoyed the fact that I could finish it before doing the inside.
