This is an Arizona neighborhood. People have little fireplaces for when it gets "cold" (anything under 15C or 60F) and big air conditioning units for the rest of the year (10 months of summer). The tree is an Arizona Willow, for lovely shade in the summer time.

why would anyone live in arizona? i don't get it

Edward Abby says that the desert is special because things are so scarce there; plants and animals are spread apart, which makes every living thing important.

People either love it or hate it. I love it. There are mountains close enough to the city to make escape from the summer heat easy and fun. In the middle of our winter right now, it is in the 60's, normal for now. A few days a year it gets below freezing at night and the roses die and the bougavilla blossoms turn brown, and lawns (the few small ones that might be seen) go dormant for a few months. The Winter is like Spring, and Spring time is like Summer, and Summer is like a sauna.

Check back with me in July when it is 100+ and humid, and ask me again. But chances are I'll say I love it then too. :-) We are an 8 hour drive away from Disneyland and the ocean, one hour away from the top of Mt. Lemmon where it is 30 degrees cooler, and just 20 minutes from Sabino Canyon, one of my favorite places that has waterfalls, a little river, lots of flora and fauna, and beautiful hiking trails. We have lots of birds and butterflies, lightning storms with radiant rainbows, and some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets on earth.

Yeah, I love it here. :-)

It sounds absolutely beautiful in AZ, Teresa! We could use a little apricity here in MN, where it's very cloudy today even though the temp is a little above normal at about 30F.

I also wanted to comment on the lovely border -- it really adds to the southwestern feeling!

In Maine, we won't see sixty for another few months. Heck, right now it is snowing, (you know, the white stuff that is made of water). No need for an AC. It would only be used for one week out of the year. Instead we have a big unit called a furnace.

Well, here in Finland we have -15 (Celsius) and lots
of snow. But the picture is nice and fun to solve.

In Estonia we've had lots and lots of snow for almost two months now (no sign of melting). This morning my thermometer showed -21 Celsius :)

Oh wow. Lauri and Merili, that brings back memories of Wisconsin where I lived for 5 years. Brrrrr.

It was sunny and warm here yesterday. Then weather warnings of a big storm coming. It blew in, very windy, rained all night. This morning, the sun is out and all is calm and pretty again.

The only thing I don't like about Tucson is the style of architecture - mostly flat square houses. But the churches are pretty:

Calgary, Alberta, Canada is very sunny today, but with snow & cool temperatures.I don't mind the cold as long as it's sunny. We get a lot of sun in Alberta! Loved the puzzle Teresa! Thanks.

I've only spent a little time in Arizona, but I loved what I saw of it. The two houses on the right look like adobe houses. Not a building material much used in Michigan.

Some houses are adobe. Most are slump block, looks like oversized bricks. That's what my house is made of. Good thing too. Because when a drunk driver missed the curve in the road and ran into my house, it only made a 5 ft. hole in the front bedroom wall. If it were an adobe house, he would have driven straight through.

My grandparents lived in Arizona, so I spent a few Christmas vacations there. I could easily live there, but I'd have to go without the rest of my family who are quite happy in the mountains and valleys of Pennsylvania! I can picture this neighborhood! I bet there are orange trees off to the right, just beyond the cactus/rock garden.

You are right! Those orange blossoms are such a beautiful aroma in the very early spring. They are pretty too, and inspired a puzzle last year. :-)

mmm warm weather looks nice.. Both my US address (Virginia) and current address (Germany) are around 0C, snowy and gray.. but by the time I'm back in the states it'll be nice and warm again

I can't wait for the warm days/nights (80-90 F) and the nice hot days here in West Texas. As far as I am concerned anything below 78 F is cold.

I agree, Hazel. It was 70 today, but I can see snow all over the mountains (one hour away). Just beautiful.

i'll stick with colorado springs - nice surprise since one NEVER knows what the weather will bring! very nice puzzle - image and solve.

I didn't know what the word means, but the image does look like houses on a high desert. Lovely simplicity.
