after more than a year I decide to create another one hope it was worth it

I can't get this :D

I can't either- I guessed to get started, then got about 1/2 way through and could go no further. Any hints?

I think I'll need some time to find my touch back must be the 5th version I put in to make it solvable...

Welcome back, Q. What a tough one.
#11: Jane Doe (telly) on Jan 7, 2010
yeah.
we'd love more!
really nice image!
that was tough! I had to do some extended edge logic to get it...but I got it! :)

im with telly here, i definitely did some 'deep logic' to place the first column when I had only the bottom left remaining. fun one!
#13: Leigh Cousins (pog) on Jan 8, 2010
This requires nothing more than a little bit of edge logic to place the 6 in the first row. Then it's just a slightly complicated but straightforward plod.
#14: Jan Wolter (jan) on Jan 8, 2010 [HINT]
So, I'm starting out using ant's suggestion of doing deep edge logic on column 1. Looking at column 1, the top three cells can get dotted because they contradict column 5. Then the next six cells can be dotted because they contradict column 3. I can put dots in rows 22 & 23 because if they were black we'd have a contradiction in column 2. The two cells above those and the three cells below them can be dotted because of contradictions with column 3. And I think that's all there is, leaving us four cells at the bottom and 10 in the middle that could be either color. I can place a few dots in column 2 using the similar logic.

Well, Leigh says look at the first row. Thanks to the dots we already have in column 1, we can dot columns 2 and 3 due to a contradiction in row 5. And that's about all we can do with the 4.

So where can the 6 be? Starting from the right, we see that it can be in 25-30 without contradiction. 21-36 also works. 18-23 works. R1C17 can't be part of the 6, but it can be part of the 4, so we can't dot that either. The 4 can also be at columns 13-16, 11-14, 7-10, or 3-7 without causing any contradictions in the rows below it. So I can't place any other dots at all in row 1 by edge logic.

So let's try column 30. Rows 26-30 can be dotted by plain old line solving. Rows 24 and 25 can be dotted by a contradiction in column 21 (because of that 9,10,9 pattern of clues). But a 5 could certainly be in columns 19-23 or 21-25, but I think you can put a dot in R15C30. No black 5 can include that cell without creating a size 1 block in column 28. But a 5 could be in rows 10-14, 6-10, or 1-5, so no other cell can be dotted. Lotta work for one dot.

Hmmm...how about column 3? You can dot columns 2-5 to avoid contradictions with column 5. But that's all.

In column 4 we can dot row 1 because of a contradiction in column 7.

Hmmm...now we can go back to doing edge logic to row 1 again, because having chipped off a few cells on the left, some things that worked before don't any more. We can dot columns 5 and 6 due to a contradiction in row 4.

So now I'm getting sick and tired of edge logic, and all I've got is this:

I'm not sure I'm stuck, but I'm sure not encouraged.

Jan - I am at almost exactly the same place as you right now. The only difference is I have R1C15 and R1C16 as dots because they contradict row 3.

I was planning at looking at this later, but I have to agree that it is very difficult going on this one.

Loved the movie, love you boss ;-)

Wonderful image. Challenging puzzle.

I couldn't get very far with the edge logic. I tried some reasonable guessing. I guessed that it was of a diagonal design and tried starting from the lower left corner, and just kept going. So I guessed right. :-)

I hope you do more, Silvain. I love your puzzles.
#18: Ery (erythrina) on Nov 19, 2012 [HINT]
I was able to place the 4 in column 1 by looking further ahead and seeing where the subsequent placement of the 8 in column 3 caused contradictions. This might be considered too much "trial and error" though.

Gave up, but really enjoyed the try.

That was fun, but I did have to guess twice.
