#5: Eludwar (elfluvsdwarf) on Nov 12, 2009
once again your excellent reading skills are shining through

are you going to make me repeat everything i post?

it says "Cool self-portrait!" I don't know how to translate it into goobly which i guess is the only language u can understand
#6: tasha harley (zzamama) on Nov 12, 2009
Ahhhh.....Speedos
#7: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Nov 12, 2009
Come on, elf. Let me explain something to you. When I wrote "#2?????," it meant "why did you write that?" or "what did you mean by that?"

Were you talking about that being a cool self-portrait of YOU?
Or of Jota, who created this puzzle? Because, just so you know, Jota is a mature female.

So don't go off on me. Why did you start messing with me anyway? I didn't ever say anything to you.
#8: Jan Wolter (jan) on Nov 13, 2009
Elf's just showing a little 'tude. Please don't let it get under your skin.
#9: Jan Wolter (jan) on Nov 13, 2009
Elf is clearly on weird streak. Adam is clearly having a bit of trouble finding a constructive response to this. My advice to Adam is to think of Elf as a comedian (possibly one with a serious side, so keep nimble). When dealing with a comedian you have several options: (1) Be the audience. Sit back and laugh. Or don't, if the comedian is not that funny. (2) Be Laurel to his Hardy. Respond with humor, match joke with joke. (3) Be the straight man.

In this discussion you are playing straight man. Every comedian loves a good straight man, so you are doing Elf a tremendous favor by doing this, but it tends not to be a personally rewarding role.

Elf I repeat "no fighting" in my puzzles!". So go to the corner and stay there until I say so!
#11: Teresa K (fasstar) on Nov 13, 2009
Jota, this puzzle is just too funny! You sure do come up with some clever ideas. :-)

Adam, I understand your frustration. I also feel annoyed and irritated. He/she reminds me of the individuals I have worked with over the past 35 years, so I try to muster a little compassion and a lot of patience.

Jan, do you honestly think elf is a comedian? Or are you just trying to defuse a potentially difficult situation? The only funny thing here, in my opinion, is Jota's puzzle (great fun!). None of elf's comments recently have made me laugh, they just make me go "Huh??????" I have not responded to any of his/her comments on my puzzles, because I did not want to elicit any more rude or inappropriate remarks. I may be risking that with this comment, but I just had to say something.

If you want funny, here's funny:

LOL Ant!
#14: Eludwar (elfluvsdwarf) on Nov 13, 2009
lemme clarify a few things

- elf (me) is indeed a female
- elf (me) is most likely not a "mature" female as adam has described jota
- elf (me) doesn't understand why a "mature female" couldn't wear a speedo and a buttoned top to hide her handle bars.
- adam, you were speaking to me because u said #2 and i took it to meant the comment number and that was my number
- dude (adam), you need to use some of ur letter keys if you want me to know what's in your head. I decided to look up this crazy lingo of urs in the urban dictionary in case i was just too square to understand

??? (3) = Ending a sentence with three question marks, directly implies that you're angry and hostile. or WTF

??????? (7) = verb symbol - used when someone is confused.

but u wrote ?????? (6) which isn't defined yet. so there's no possible way i could know what ur talking about until u define it. don't get hostile because u miscommunicated to me ur language.
#15: Eludwar (elfluvsdwarf) on Nov 13, 2009
Oh and Jan is cool :D
#16: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Nov 13, 2009
elf, elf, elf... this is the last time I am going to waste my time dealing with you and your spiteful ways and your enigmatic poppycock. I am glad to finally know you are female, so we wouldn't always wonder about you (well, we all still wonder about you, but not for gender reasons any more). LOL! :-)

I think it is hilarious that you don't know if you are (in your own words) "mature" or not. LOL!

If you thought Jota was a guy (as I suspect you must have) then I cannot fault you for your comment #2, and now looking back I can clearly see why you wrote what you did. I must have taken for granted that everyone knew Jota was a female, yet you obviously didn't. I am sorry for assuming that.

Learn to count. Not that it makes any difference, but I actually only used "5" question marks, and it was Teresa who used "6" of them (neither of which will fit the pattern of the significant "3" or "7" that you looked up). It is common sense, actually, what we both meant with our use of multiple question marks, and I bet a lot more people knew what she and I meant than those who didn't.

I apologize for assuming you were smart enough to understand that.

Goodbye, elfie "poo." I am "through" with "you." Go try and annoy someone else and make them "blue." Or go live in a cave and cry "boo" "hoo." For the rude things you said, well SHAME ON "YOU."

I won't be acknowledging your existence any further!

I am glad you "luv" dwarf... I can only hope he/she/it "luvs" you back.
#17: Eludwar (elfluvsdwarf) on Nov 13, 2009
r u my "dwarf" adam? (wink, wink)

oh and i assume you are male, but i don't want to be wrong. you don't have to prove it or anything like that; i'd take ur word for it :)
#18: Jan Wolter (jan) on Nov 14, 2009
I suppose that in the texting generation, it only makes sense that things like ??? and ??????? acquire specific and distinct meanings.

My opinion of the rest of this conversation is easily summarized: ..,;..()@...
#19: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Nov 14, 2009
Wow, Jan... it's rare to see you use any symbols at all, and to use 12 in a row????? LOL
#20: Teresa K (fasstar) on Nov 14, 2009
Jan, are you making a face or swearing? LOL
#21: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Nov 14, 2009
My guess is that he is just showing this whole conversation is gibberish.
#22: Jan Wolter (jan) on Nov 14, 2009
Well, if the Urban Dictionary is assigning meaning to disembodied punctuation, then that introduces the potential for a whole new language of punctuation. So here we have two long pauses brought on by thoughts interrupted bracketing a short pause; a longer, slightly snobby, pause; two full stops; a digression; and a nonspecific sense of localization. 12 symbols pregnant with meaning, if ever I saw 12 symbols pregnant with meaning.
#23: Katydid (kmeifert) on Nov 14, 2009
Now that's the kind of humor I like, Jan! Thanks for the chuckle!
#24: Jane Doe (telly) on Nov 14, 2009

#30: Kristen Vognild (Kristen) on Sep 5, 2011
Avoiding the previous digression, I just wonder if this puzzle refers back to a previous puzzle since it's titled "Same day at the beach"
#31: Jota (jota) on Sep 6, 2011
I had to go back and check, yes it's #6148 Kristen.
#32: Shrek4fun (shrek4fun) on Feb 27, 2022
Thanks Jota, and thanks Kristen for asking, going to check out 6148
