Indeed a day we shall never forget!
#2: Julie Katz (katwomanjulie) on Oct 24, 2009
That was my 14th Birthday. I'm not 22. My birthday will never be the same again and I can't believe all the people who are haunted by the day i was born.

If you were 5 or 6 then, that means you're 13 or 14 now, so I'll have to consider your young age is your excuse for not realizing that this puzzle is in really poor taste.

There are a lot of appropriate ways to commemorate 9/11. Turning it into a game is NOT one of them!!
#4: MaryJane Anderson (o-so-clever) on Oct 24, 2009
sorry. it was just...what i felt like doing. and ya im 13. sorry if this offends anyone. really...really sorry.

She isn't being mean or rude. I LOVE the guy upside down!

Julie, you said you are "not" 22. So how old are you? LOL, I think you meant "now." :-)
#7: Tom Siebert (tsiebert) on Oct 25, 2009 [SPOILER]
Adam, I have no doubt that wasn't her intent, and that the offense was an inadvertent result of her age, and not thinking all the way through the impact this picture may have on people who lost friends and loved ones in the attack.

But you? You're old enough to know better. Given the topic of the picture, your comment that you "LOVE the guy upside down!" is disgusting!! The guy is plunging to his death. I'm so happy for you that you can find that entertaining. More of your superior Christian ethics on display??

I have to admit as someone directly affected by these events, I was sort of horrified as I realized I was filling in dots representing real people plummeting to their death.. Just not something I would expect on a normally fun puzzle site.

And now I will go make some popcorn and sit back to watch the Titans of 3408 battle it out haha.
#9: Tom Siebert (tsiebert) on Oct 25, 2009
ant, you'll probably be disappointed. There really is no defense Adam can offer that will make his comment anything less than horrific. That he doesn't even seem to realize that the picture is in poor taste, arguably offensive, just compounds it.

As for Mary Jane, as I already said, I don't believe she meant to offend anyone. I think the offense was an accidental byproduct of her age, and I don't want to engage in a long battle with someone else that results in her feeling any worse than she probably will as (or if) others weigh in on the puzzle itself.

You have my sympathies for your loss on that day. I too lost someone who I can only call an acquaintance, someone to whom I wasn't close enough to actually call a friend, but whose company I did enjoy on those few occasions we found ourselves together.

And I do like your closing line. 3408 was indeed the basis of my closing comment in #7.

sorry again. i didn't realize that it was offending to people. Ant i am truely sorry for you're loss. i don't know what thats like. i don't beleive i knew/was related to anyone who died...or was in the building.

I've made a rare use of my editorial powers to add the tag "[disturbing image]" to this puzzle title.
#12: Tom Siebert (tsiebert) on Oct 26, 2009
Mary Jane, speaking for myself (because I can't for others), apology accepted. I take you at your word that you meant no offense.

Jan, good idea. The warning will be of benefit to new solvers, but "disturbing" rather than "offensive" acknowledges the absence of malicious intent.

Mary Jane again (because I wanted to keep this comment separate from the first one), don't take the criticisms as a reason to not create more puzzles. Topic aside, the artistry wasn't bad at all.
#13: MaryJane Anderson (o-so-clever) on Oct 26, 2009
Jan that was a good idea. thank you. maybe this will help.
#14: ant (agrest272) on Oct 26, 2009
Hey MaryJane, nothing to apologize for, I was just surprised is all. Keep on puzzling!

On a side note, I bet this puzzle is going to have tons of solves now that everyone will be intrigued by the 'disturbing' content. I know I would be.
#15: Jan Wolter (jan) on Oct 27, 2009
That's always a side effect of such labeling, but it's OK with me. I don't mind if lots of people see it, I just don't want them being caught off guard by it. People who solve this looking for a disturbing image should be neither shocked nor disappointed. Probably they will have the good sense not to solve it in the office or with small children looking over their shoulder. I'm perfectly happy to have some ... complex subjects depicted in puzzles here. It's a complex world.

I was taken aback by the subject as well, but I see it as a way of memorializing the event. I'm sure there was no disrespect intended. I am glad for anything that keeps us from forgetting or trivializing what happened that day.
#17: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Oct 28, 2009
Tom, you little turd... why do you have to go and start stuff again? Voice your opinion, but why bring my name into the mix? Old habits die hard, I guess.
#18: Tom Siebert (tsiebert) on Oct 28, 2009
Adam, your name came into it because the one and only part of your comment that I specifically took issue with, was outrageous. But I will not be dragged into a shouting match on an issue in which you are so incredibly on the wrong side. I learned a year ago on 3408 that you're quite good at belittling others, but not at all good at accepting criticism when it's deserved. If you wish to do battle, you'll do so alone.

"Old habits die hard, I guess." Considering how quickly you resorted to name calling, to which I'll not be responding in kind, that self-observation was quite astute.
#19: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Oct 28, 2009
Speak for yourself, about belittling others and not being able to accept criticism either. So don't try and single me out. Anyone who reads #3408 knows that you are just as bad. At least I can admit those kinds of things. But you are right about one thing, and one thing only. There is nothing worth battling here.
