Puzzle Description:
Hungaroring. Formula-1-Course in Budapest. With black and white flag at the target line

I solved it with much edge logic.#2: Gator (Gator) on Oct 11, 2009
Gator, please prove it. thx
I'm working on it, just not there yet. :)#3: ant (agrest272) on Oct 12, 2009 [HINT]
not too bad once you get C1, just took some looking ahead to see exactly where those 8 should lie.#4: Gator (Gator) on Oct 16, 2009 [HINT]
I cannot see the next step past here:#5: ant (agrest272) on Oct 16, 2009 [HINT]

Where is the next one?
If you start with the 8 in C1, at the bottom, R23 through R30 will cause rows 3 an 4 to be wrong.#6: Kai-Uwe Zickerick (conzick) on Oct 16, 2009
Moving that column of 8 up one square at a time and solving it out, you will continue to find an error until you reach R14 to R21.
The only other option would be R5 to R12, but solving that out will cause an error in R14, so that leaves the only possible placement for that column of 8 to be R14 to R21. It takes some solving out and backtracking, but I still consider that logical solving since you are solving by disproving.
thx, Anthony!#7: Gator (Gator) on Oct 16, 2009 [HINT]
Looking that many moves ahead is considered guessing. Making R30C1 a dot requires looking 2 moves ahead. R29C1 requires looking even more moves ahead. Looking 1 move ahead is definitely considered solvable - 2 moves ahead if it is easy to keep in your head, but not if it is difficult or requires more than 2 moves ahead.#8: Kai-Uwe Zickerick (conzick) on Oct 18, 2009
I can easily see how you are disproving the cells, but most people will not be able to see that far ahead. I usually try to find a way to tackle it a different way if I have to look that far ahead.
Sorry, Kai-Uwe, but I can't call this one solvable with logic unless a different way exists to get to the solution with looking so many moves ahead.
I can stand it, Gator. thx anyway!#9: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Oct 21, 2009
New version published by conzick.#10: Kai-Uwe Zickerick (conzick) on Oct 22, 2009
Now solvable without guessing!#11: Tonia Bergh (tonia) on Oct 22, 2009 [HINT]
I finally got it on the second attempt. Once I found the correct placement in C1, the rest solved easily. Thanks, Kai-Uwe, for another fun challenge!#12: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Oct 22, 2009
Found to be logically solvable by Gator.#13: Gator (Gator) on Oct 22, 2009 [HINT]
I really like way the logic plays out with the 1 clues in columns 33-35. Very nice solve.#14: Bill Eisenmann (Bullet) on Jun 30, 2021
And no comment yet on the content! I'm a huge Formula 1 fan, but its coverage in America is virtually non-existent. Only this year have I seen a few races on network or cable TV.#15: Kai-Uwe Zickerick (conzick) on Jul 1, 2021
Fun solve!
thx, Bill. For me F1 in these days is not that fun anymore than it was years ago.#16: Bill Eisenmann (Bullet) on Jul 1, 2021
Agreed, although upstart VerStappen is regularly tromping Lewis Hamilton lately, which is making competition again.#17: Kai-Uwe Zickerick (conzick) on Jul 4, 2021
Also agreed
