This has lots of one-pixel wide diagonal lines, which almost always mean that there are many, many multiple solutions, as there are in this case. I found this pretty guessable, but it doesn't come close to having a unique solution.#2: Mark Conger (aruba) on Nov 19, 2006
Please review the "Advice on Creating Puzzles" page (the link is on the "Create Puzzles" page, for ideas on how to make these into better puzzles.
I was able to guess the answer, but it certainly isn't solvable in general.#3: william kamery (bill.1) on May 31, 2007 [HINT]

Why do you leave this type of puzzle on the site? PBNs should be logical to solve.#5: Jan Wolter (jan) on Sep 9, 2007
I do remove some puzzle, especially those where it is almost impossible to solve the puzzle even when guessing. I remove puzzles if I think hardly anyone is going to have any fun at all with the puzzle.#6: Rea Aksglæde Karlsen (Rea) on Sep 13, 2008
But this is a site for amatuer puzzle creators. Some wonderful puzzles show up here, but not every puzzle is perfect. Some with significant defects are never-the-less quite a lot of fun. A few of the highest rated puzzles on the site have multiple solutions and are thus not completely solvable by logic.
Also, for many solvers it's not that big a problem. Some people routinely guess as they solve puzzles. Not my cup of tea, but if that's the way they get the most enjoyment out of the puzzle, then all power to them.
I've seen one puzzle site that bans puzzles with multiple solutions, and then also bans symmetrical puzzles. That's because, once you know that no puzzles have multiple solutions, then most symmetrical puzzles become really easy, because if the clues are symmetrical then the solution must be, and this gives big clues. On this site, you can never entirely trust symmetry because you can never entirely be sure that there is a unique solution.
So my preference is not to delete all the puzzles that are not logically solvable. Instead, I label them. When you select this puzzle off the list, you'll have seen a question mark next to the name. That means it requires some guessing. When the puzzle comes up on the screen there is a message under the title that tells if it needs guessing. If you don't enjoy such puzzles, you can ignore them. The rather low rating is another clue.
I've currently got some changes on the workbench that I think will make it easier for puzzle creators to make puzzles with unique solutions, and that will encourage them in that direction.
I like that this webpage has all kinds of puzzles but this puzzle is no fun and not at all solvable.#7: naum khulin (nah) on Sep 14, 2010
I could not even guess, had to look at the solution with is a first fore me.
I do not see a problem with this one.#8: Gator (Gator) on Sep 14, 2010
