Puzzle Description:

These are beets - one day our grocery store ran out of potatoes so I picked up these and a few other things and invented my "Sausage Borscht". I've put the recipe in the first comment.

Sausage Borscht Recipe

Everyone in my family likes this one. It's quick to throw into a pot in the morning, and it makes the whole house smell nice by dinner time.

2 pkgs pre-cooked sausages (German sausage is nice, but low-fat turkey sausage works well too)
2 large boxes of Vegetable broth (900 ml each)
1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 1/2 cups chopped carrots
3 cups chopped beets
1 large bell pepper, chopped
Aprox. 4 to 8 green onions, chopped (the actual amount isn't important - just grab a bunch)
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 bag of coleslaw mix (or 4 cups chopped cabbage)
2 heaping tsps dried marjoram leaves
1 tsp salt (optional)
1/4 tsp pepper (optional)

Mix all ingredients in a slow cooker (or large pot on the stove), and simmer all day (minimum, six hours).

Enjoy!

There are some foods that are not very good tasting, yet you can still get them down. Then there are beets; the absolutely worst tasting food (if you can even call them food) in the world.

Sounds good, Meg. Very nice image as well.

I thought they were radishes at first. Too bad there isn't more of a deeper, maroon-y red available. Very nice picture, regardless. Thanks for the recipe, too! You and monkeyboy are two of my favorite puzzle artists! :)

Radishes and beets look pretty much the same, don't they? If you like radishes better, feel free to call them radishes. Or even rutabagas (though those are usually white on the bottom half). :-)

Ha. I could have sworn it was bananas and cherries right up to the end. Your idea was so much healthier than mine!

Thanks for the recipe. The image is great, too.

Thank you very much, Cynthia.

Turkey sausauge is so good, it would make anything taste good. I have cooked a similar dish, but without the beets (no thanks).

At first I thought this was an image of cherries and pickles, and was wondering, "Is she pregnant?" LOL

Lol! Thank goodness, no. The kids I've already got are more than enough for me. ;-)

And beets really seem to be a love/hate thing for most people. We love them, but I know lots of people who can't stand them.

Absolutely beautiful image, Meg. I seldom like beets: I can take a few atop a salad and sometimes like beet hummus. I like them best in this image.

Enjoyed the solve! Thanks!

Pretty beets! And a recipe too! I'll have to give it a try.

Oh Meg, I LOVE beets...and this recipe sounds delish! I'll probably be making it soon!
