As a chemistry teacher this puzzle is near and dear to my heart. My 2 mL worth - I always encourage my students to write down important memorized information at the top of their test as soon as they receive it. Then they won't get confused or psyche themselves out.

Your head is made of Hydrogen, Ethane and Carbon Hydro-Trifluoride? ;-)

I second GaHendrick's advice. When I study I make lists of everything I don't know. Then I make another, smaller list. And so on, each time eliminating whatever I'm sure I know. Eventually I'm down to just a handful of dates or formulas. I've walked into exams repeating them over and over until I get a chance to write them down at the top of the page. Then I can do the test without worrying!
