I remember when I was very young, hobos were a common sight along the highways. Since my family home was on a state highway, I remember one or two of them coming to the door. My father had warned us not to open the door to them if there was no adult home. My grandmother had lived there before we did, but died before I was born. In later years when I learned of these signs, I often wondered if there was a marking somewhere that said ours was a house which gave handouts because from what I learned of her generous heart, I'm sure she found something for them if they stopped.

I found them when I was searching for currency symbols, and wondered if I could do the same kind of layout. I thought they were interesting.

Thanks, JoDeen. That IS a small town! What a cool Mom to do that.

Why do you ask monkeyboy, do you remember the sandwich :-)
Nice puzzle Teresa.

That was really funny, Jota! As a matter of fact, I do. Pastrami on rye, with lots of mustard. :-)

Thanks, Mary and Telly. When I first thought of it, I wasn't sure they would be solvable. I did have to rework them a bit before they were ready. I'm glad they were fun.

very, very interesting! the bad dog sign looks like a fence to me. my grandmother gave handouts to hobos riding the rails here in colorado springs during the depression. she was very kindhearted and an amazing cook, and word spread among the hobos that hers was a house where they would be welcome. this is the most interesting series i've been solving (to date). i love your puzzles because they're solveable, entertaining, and always have some cool lesson and/or interesting image at the end.

I agree with all the kind comments. But, alas, I have no hobo stories to tell. :(
