It took me a couple of days to solve this, even knowing what the result would be.

So, for hints

top line, first 20 squares are blank
bottom line, first 18 squares are blank.
blank grids are #1, 47, 68, 69. Start count at upper left.

Thank you.

Lovely image. I just wish it hadn't required so much guessing. I finally had to peek, several times, in order to finish it. Very pretty image though.

Hi Teresa I wish I had your skill at puzzle making. Sorry about the guessing. The solver was able to figure it out with the above hints. Did you use them?

So how would you change this to make it not require guessing?
#6: Teresa K (fasstar) on Apr 29, 2009 [HINT]
Mary, when I have a large puzzle that is not solvable without guessing, I don't publish it until I can make it solvable. My two main tricks are to make a horizon (when it is appropriate and fits with the image) or in this case, make a border. The border can be a solid straight line, or something fancy, like the border you did on the right side (trellis?). You could try something easy like increasing the height by 5 pixels and make a solid black line border around the bottom-left-top.

If that doesn't work, sometimes just shifting the image up or down one line makes a difference. Or I might use the "helper" to show me where it stalls, and add pixels in the trouble spaces.

This is such a beautiful image, you might get more people to try it if it is solvable, and you will probably get better ratings too, if it is solvable.

Yes, it is supposed to be a trellis. I hadn't thought of letting the 'helper' find a stall area.

I'm not too worried about ratings but would like people to try solving the puzzle.

Thanks for your help.
