Is it just me, or does this require lots of guessing?

It requires lots of guessing. There are many, many solutions and I have no idea which one is right.

It does look like a very nice image and a good idea for a puzzle though. It'd be very much worthwhile to try to make some changes to make it solvable.

I had no trouble solving it, I actually got it on the first try, it's not that hard.

Challenging puzzle. Nice idea. I went back to your puzzles # 504,512 and 614. You have very clever ideas!

Sadly, there are still multiple solutions. I can't therefore call this a valid puzzle. However, the puzzle was fairly easy up until the final four squares.
