XD = a smiley with D for the mouth and X for the eyes. Essentially meant to immitate a big cheesy grin so big in fact that you squint your eyes. XD can also be parallel to LOL. It really is true that we see what we expect to see. At least in this case it works to our advantage! When it comes to opinions and beliefs, I'm afraid it works against us rather badly.
