The helper couldn't solve it, but the helper doesn't use edge logic. I solved it using edge logic on the sides. If I could solve it, you can too!#2: Minnie Fuerstnau (m.fuerstnau) on Jan 14, 2009 [SPOILER]

I'm glad you finished it, Adam and Minnie. I did it without guessing (so I'm a little bummed by the question mark). I really don't like puzzles that require guessing, but I know lots of puzzlers like a good challenge using edge logic. Maybe I'll just stick to creating ones that Mr. Helper can solve.#5: Jane Doe (telly) on Jan 14, 2009

That was fun. I used edge logic and got it all. Great puzzle.#7: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 14, 2009
Thanks, Telly and Timothy. I know that no guessing is required, so I hope Jan will remove the question mark.#8: Jan Wolter (jan) on Jan 14, 2009
I removed the question mark. This is solvable without guessing.#9: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 14, 2009
The one good thing about the question mark is that it increases the likelihood that I will solve a puzzle. I used to keep up with solving every puzzle on the site. That's hopeless now. I try to solve the question marked ones, which means that either I get to solve a good hard puzzle like this, or I get hopelessly stuck.
But even with question marks, I'm unlikely to get to many of the really big puzzles these days. I need to figure out a way to delegate. I should search the database for people who (1) solve lots of puzzles before I do, (2) rate them for solvability, and (3) usually give the same ratings that I do. They'd be natural candidates for giving the power to rule on solvability too. But I'd also have to write code to enable me to grant that power to selected users.
Thanks, Jan. I appreciate your taking the time to check the question marks.#10: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Jan 14, 2009
Good luck finding someone. I am glad it's not me!#11: Mary Thomas (marleethom) on Jan 17, 2009
I didn't have to guess. Not sure what sort of logic I use.#12: Linda Martin (ilovethispuzzle123) on Dec 31, 2010
Nice concept and thanks
excellent, cool and clever. tough but fun solve.#13: Teresa K (fasstar) on Dec 31, 2010

Tough puzzle with an enjoyable image. The squareness really caused me confusion as to was it was for quite a while. Love the zip.#16: Tonia Bergh (tonia) on Aug 21, 2016
Cute image and a fun solve! Thank you, Teresa!#17: besmirched tea (besmirched tea) on Dec 24, 2016 [SPOILER]
