Too bad we don't have the color orange in our palette.

Valerie. What do you think of the idea that if you can visualize the contradiction without physically doing it (placing a pixel in the wrong spot and seeing that it leads to a contradiction) than it ought to be moderate lookahead?

The C17 R10,11 "mistake" is easy to carry through in you head a few steps to visualize the contradiction. My vote is for moderate (but definitely not guessing)

Brian - I am still learning the differences between guessing, moderate lookahead, and deep lookahead, so I am not sure that I am the best person to answer your question. But it seems to me that logic should be explainable, which would mean that visualizing the answer wouldn't count, but that it can probably be put into words?

Joe (@infrapinklizzard) - If you happen to see this puzzle, I think you are the best person to answer Brian's question.

If you can visualize the result without placing a mark, it's not guessing. My understanding of moderate v. deep lookahead is how many steps ahead you go: Moderate is limited to 2-3 moves ahead, and more than that counts as deep. Sometimes I'll have a step where I can't determine whether it was 3 moves or 4, but that's fairly uncommon.

Shh...let 'em sleep. he does less damage that way. true now, true then. i don't like either of them!

I agree with Wombat.
2-3 steps is moderate
more than that is deep lookahead, if it is laid out

If it cannot be explained, then it is guessing
