That's definitely two sixteenth notes, and by their diamond shape, and the stem coming up from the middle instead of the side, they look to be from the dawn of printed music, about 500 years ago! That's my opinion as a musicologist, anyway.#6: Annabella Behrens (Annabella) on Nov 10, 2008
Eighth notes have one beam across the top, sixteenth notes have two beams.
