Reminds me of the books by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, "The Mote in God's Eye" and "The Gripping Hand". The Moties, who live on a planet around the star that humans call the mote in god's eye because of how it appears in the constellation from their home planet (not Earth, this is far in the future), do not have bilateral symmetry like humans do. They have 3 arms and hands - one is small and highly dexterous, one is general purpose, and the third is very large and strong - "the gripping hand". Humans have logic discussions involving "on the one hand..., on the other hand...". Moties have the same kind of discussion, but it adds "..., but on the gripping hand ..." that gives a third side to the choices and indicates that this one has the strongest reason to be accepted as the "right" answer to the problem.#5: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Sep 28, 2025
Oh I like that!
I read a lot of Niven and Pournelle long ago, but don't have any memory of reading those.
